Johnnie Walker Experience To Create 150 Hospitality & Retail Jobs In Edinburgh

Due to open next year, the Johnnie Walker Experience whisky attraction will create around 150 new hospitality and retail jobs in Edinburgh.

The £185 million project, to be based within the old House of Fraser building on Edinburgh's Princes Street, will be ready for action next summer but the recruitment drive for dozens of bar staff, experience ambassadors, front of house roles and retail vacancies is already underway.

Although training will be provided for all of the roles on offer, previous experience of retail work, the hospitality sector or the tourism industry would be a definite advantage in securing one of the Edinburgh jobs.

The Johnnie Walker Experience will provide guests with visual information about the iconic brand of whisky, along with other Scottish blends, single malts and the history of Scotland. It will also host a rooftop bar with views of the Scottish capital city.

Announcing the recruitment drive in Scotland, General Manager of the Diageo venture, Barbara Smith, said: “Johnnie Walker Princes Street will be the most exciting new visitor experience to open in Edinburgh for decades and we want to recruit the best talent to join our team.”

“Johnnie Walker is a whisky of exceptional character and we are looking for real characters to tell our story and to create an unforgettable experience for every person who walks through our doors.”

“We know it is a difficult time for everyone across the hospitality and tourism industry with many people losing their jobs, which is why we are pleased to be able to restart the recruitment process and to create new high value jobs in the Edinburgh economy,” added Ms Smith.

Diageo’s Senior Global Brand Ambassador, Ewan Gunn, said: “You have the chance to be a part of something that is really a once in a lifetime opportunity. The eyes of the world will be on Johnnie Walker Princes Street, and it will play a major role in shaping the future of one of Scotland’s most important industries. This is your chance to be right at the heart of that.”
