Lidl To Create Hundreds Of New Jobs With 9 Supermarket Openings
Lidl, the German discount grocery chain, is to open nine brand-new stores by the end of February, creating hundreds of full or part time supermarket jobs across the UK.
With Lidl’s UK workforce already exceeding 34,000, these new openings will add even more roles, ideal for students looking for flexible part time work or anyone seeking full-time employment in retail.
Some of the new stores have already opened their doors, including branches in Walsall in the West Midlands and Wombourne in South Staffordshire.
Also, five previously closed Lidl stores have now reopened following extensive refurbishments, boasting larger sales areas and upgraded facilities. These renovated stores are in West Ealing (London), Oldbrook (Milton Keynes), Wells (Somerset), Blantyre (Scotland) and Cwmbran near Cardiff in Wales.
Each new Lidl opening is great news for students and other young jobseekers, with around 40 new full and part time roles being created per store in West Ealing, Wombourne and Walsall alone.
Announcing the news, Lidl GB’s chief development officer, Richard Taylor, said: “We’re maintaining our momentum and opening nine state-of-the-art stores, delivering bigger and better shopping experiences to new communities and those we’ve proudly served for an average of 26 years.”
‘After a record-breaking Christmas, where millions of households turned to Lidl, these openings reflect the growing demand for our unbeatable value and quality. This is just the start. We’ve got more openings in the pipeline this year alone and can’t wait to welcome even more customers, both loyal and new, through our doors in the weeks ahead,” added Mr Taylor.
Lidl has been on an ambitious expansion drive, having opened several new stores in the lead-up to Christmas last year. Locations such as Berwick Green in Bristol, Bovey Tracey in Devon and Stirchley in Birmingham were among those added to Lidl’s growing portfolio.
The retailer’s long-term goal is to increase its current network of 970 stores to 1,100 across the UK.
With a reputation for competitive pay, strong employee benefits and flexible shift patterns, Lidl’s latest openings present an excellent opportunity for students looking to earn while they study.
