University students who study abroad could improve their chances of picking up graduate jobs in London, it has been claimed.

According to the Council for Industry and Higher Education (CIHE), internships and studying abroad increases graduates' global awareness, a trait that is in demand.

CIHE's Global Horizons and the Role of Employers showed that graduates who had studied abroad found it easier to integrate into a multicultural working environment.

The report also suggests that foreign language skills are also highly valued in the jobs marketplace.

Bill Rammell, minister of state for the Department for Universities, Innovation and Skills, said: "For students, a period of study or work abroad brings positive benefits both personally and professionally."

"In a global economy, these skills and competencies are increasingly sought by employers, and students with this experience will find that their employability is higher," he added.

However, according to the Journal less British students are choosing to study abroad than ever before, despite this increased demand for multicultural experience.
