Interview tips revealed Students preparing for interviews are being advised on which "gaffes" they should try and avoid when trying to impress prospective bosses, it has emerged.

Inappropriate clothing is the ultimate boob in the top five interview gaffes almost certain to ruin the chances of gaining employment, according to employment analysts at TheLadders.

Second on the list is 'telling porkies', for example falsely claiming to speak French - which could result in the interview being held in the foreign language.

Third was 'slagging off' former employers and colleagues, followed by acting desperate and being unprepared - for example not researching the firm and its industry.

Sarah Drew, general manager of the site, commented: "Sometimes the most able candidate on paper can shoot themselves in the foot when you actually meet them.

"What you, as the potential employer has to do, is assess how much of it is just interview nerves and how much of it is indicative of their inability to do the job," she added.

Meanwhile, CNN reported this month that according to new research, arrogance is a sure way of not getting the job as 44 per cent of those polled said they would not take on a cocky applicant.
