M&S Food Hall Set To Create Dozens Of Full Or Part Time Jobs In Croydon

A brand new M&S Food Hall in Purley is set to generate dozens of full or part time job opportunities in Croydon as part of a wider redevelopment project in the area.

The development, which falls within the Purley Business Improvement District, has been welcomed as a key regeneration project, aligning with Executive Mayor Jason Perry’s goals of boosting local investment and employment.

The new M&S Food Hall will add to existing M&S locations in Croydon, including the town centre’s Whitgift Centre store and a recently opened branch on Purley Way.

In addition to retail, the project - led by developers Grove Property in partnership with M&S - will serve as a creative hub for the chain.

Above a 68-space car park, 20 independent studios and two larger open-plan workspaces will be available, aiming to foster local talent and innovation within Croydon’s creative sector.

Announcing the jobs, William Smith, Property Director for M&S, said: “We're reshaping M&S for growth and making sure we have the right stores in the right space to deliver the best possible shopping experience for customers. We are delighted to open a brand-new M&S Foodhall in Purley, creating some 55 jobs for the local community.”

“The show-stopping store will support local suppliers and will offer shoppers a fresh market-style Food Hall brimming with fresh produce, sourced from M&S’ Select Farm Partners,” added Mr Smith.

The Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, welcomed the news, saying: “This Brighton Road project is a great example of investors working closely with the Croydon community, Council and commercial partners to design a regeneration project that delivers for all.”

“I’m delighted that we will see these historic buildings restored and brought back into use, whilst retaining their heritage. The approach by Marks & Spencer to open a new Food Hall in Purley signals that this is an area that retailers want to invest in.”

“I welcome the 120 jobs the development proposals will create locally, as well as the many opportunities the creative studios will bring to entrepreneurs and the Croydon economy,” concluded the Mayor.

With job openings like these on the horizon, students and other young jobseekers in Croydon will soon have some great new opportunities at the M&S Food Hall.
