High street tech retailer Currys has announced plans to create over 1,000 new full or part time jobs before the Christmas holidays in 2023.

The vacancies will be a mix of permanent and temp jobs, alongside more than 100 opportunities for delivery drivers.

In addition to Christmas staff, Currys is also looking for extra workers to help with elevated periods of trading due to upcoming events like Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the New Year sales in January.

As well as seasonal retail jobs, the hiring spree will also include vacancies for contact centre staff, distribution workers and other roles.

Currys say that over 700 seasonal jobs will be created during the recruitment spree and that almost half as many again will be permanent positions.

In total, the company will be taking on around 1,100 new staff in the coming weeks. Breaking it down, the recruitment drive at Currys in the run up to Christmas will look like this:

- 720 temp/Xmas jobs
- 370 new permanent positions
- 120 vacancies for delivery drivers

Starting pay at Currys is currently at least £10.50 outside of London but rises to a minimum of £11.50 in the capital.

Announcing the new positions for the festive period and beyond, Currys’ People, Communications & Sustainability Director, Paula Coughlan, said: “We’re delighted to be making over a thousand vacancies available ahead of this year’s peak trading period.”

“Our customers know that shopping with Currys means getting access to the best support and advice when buying new tech. That’s why we’re opening up well over 900 extra roles across our stores, effective immediately,” added Ms Coughlan.
