German retailer Lidl has announced plans to create dozens of new full or part time supermarket jobs in Edinburgh with the launch of a massive new store.

The discount grocery chain will open a new store at Edinburgh’s Meadowbank Retail Park in the first half of next year in a move which will create around 40 new vacancies at Lidl.

The new Lidl in Edinburgh will join the company’s 21 existing stores in the Scottish capital and will cover more than 13,500 square feet of retail floor space.

Lidl has around 100 supermarkets across Scotland and the basic rate for new recruits at the Meadowbank Retail Park will start at £11.40 per hour.

Announcing the latest venture in the city, Gordon Rafferty, the Regional Head of Property for Lidl GB, said: “We're thrilled to be progressing well on another Lidl store for the residents of Edinburgh, providing the people of Scotland's capital with further access to high-quality products at best-value prices.”

“With its convenient location and modern facilities, the opening of our Meadowbank store will provide customers with a positive and enjoyable shopping experience, reflecting Lidl's dedication to delivering great products and fantastic offers to the local community,” added Mr Rafferty.
