German grocery retail chain Aldi has announced expansion plans which will see the company create almost 100 new full and part time supermarket jobs in Northamptonshire.

The supermarket, which employs over 35,000 people in the UK and Ireland, is investing more than £1.3 million in Northamptonshire and is looking to fill around 90 full or part time vacancies at stores across the county.

Aldi pays staff a minimum of £11 per hour at the moment, but that is rising to at least £11.40 from the start of July this year. Inside the M25, the company will be paying all employees at least £12.85 per hour from July 1st 2023.

Announcing the expansion plans, Aldi UK and Ireland’s Chief Executive Officer, Giles Hurley, said: “We’ve been helping Britain find the best value for money when it comes to their food shop for more than 30 years and the demand for our low prices is now higher than ever.”

“We know, however, that there are still areas that don’t have a store or that need more or larger stores to meet increased customer demand. That’s why our 2023 expansion plans are focused on making sure our award-winning products at unbeatable prices become accessible to even more people,” added the CEO.

With the 90 vacancies up for grabs in Northamptonshire, along with 1,000 roles on offer at Aldi’s Regional Distribution Centres (RDCs) across the United Kingdom, the German chain is expecting to create around 6,000 new jobs in the UK in 2023.
