John Lewis has announced its hiring plans for the festive season and is creating 7,000 Christmas jobs for the 2021 holidays.

The recruitment drive is a marked increase on last year’s pandemic-blighted Christmas period of trading when the Partnership only hired 5,000 temporary seasonal staff.

The new festive temps will work at over 30 John Lewis department stores and fulfilment centres as well as more than 300 branches of Waitrose, the supermarket chain which the Partnership chain also owns.

The majority of the Christmas jobs will be based at Waitrose stores, with 4,700 full and part time vacancies up for grabs. A further 2,300 positions will be based within the main John Lewis brand.

In an added incentive for all new staff (aka partners), John Lewis is also offering free food and drink to anyone who joins their team this Christmas.

Roles on offer across the John Lewis empire will include warehouse jobs, supermarket assistants, customer delivery drivers and night shift workers.

Launching the festive hiring spree for 2021, the people director for John Lewis Partnership, Nikki Humphrey, said: “We know that as the first Christmas after lockdown, customers will want to make it really special and we're throwing everything we can into helping them celebrate - our festive team will have a crucial role to play.”

“We’re looking for people who can deliver extraordinary service to help customers get what they need to celebrate. We look forward to welcoming people into our team across the country,” added Ms Humphrey.

The temporary Christmas vacancies at John Lewis and Waitrose are now live on the company’s recruitment site which you can access here. The Partnership will be filling the Xmas roles throughout the rest of September and October, with some positions starting as early as the first week next month.
