Retailer Marks & Spencer is creating 500 temporary Christmas warehouse jobs at its Castle Donington base for the 2020 holidays.
The 500 temp positions are in addition to an extra 500 permanent jobs which M&S are creating at their distribution hub on the border between Leicestershire and Derbyshire.
The warehouse has already increased its headcount by hiring around 400 permanent staff in 2020 and the depot, close to the M1 motorway, is continuing to recruit new employees after increased demand for online orders in the pandemic.
All new recruits will receive at least £9.70 an hour but workers on the 10pm to 6am night shift will earn even more.
After all of the 500 new Xmas temps are in place, along with the 500 extra permanent staff which M&S are recruiting at the Castle Donington hub, there will be around 4,000 employees working at the site.
Launching this year’s recruitment push for Xmas staff, Castle Donington’s head for Marks & Spencer, Robert Davies, said:
“With Christmas nearly upon us, we are pleased to begin the search for seasonal colleagues to join our team. We’ve been delighted to welcome more permanent and part-time colleagues to the site from our local communities over the last few months to support the continued growth of our online sales and look forward to the team expanding even more in the coming weeks.”
“While this year presents a very different build-up to the festive season, we remain committed to delivering exceptional service for our customers and their families this Christmas,” added Mr Davies.
M&S also sought to reassure potential applicants about safety concerns during the ongoing pandemic, saying in a statement: “The safety and wellbeing of all colleagues has been the highest priority throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and the Castle Donington site adapted quickly with robust hygiene and social distancing measures in place from the outset; from door closing devices to increased cleaning schedules and perspex screens between workstations.”
“All new colleagues will receive full health and safety training covering the importance of these additional measures during their induction process.”
