Retailer M&S is creating 360 new full or part time warehouse jobs at its new food distribution centre in Milton Keynes.

Set to open next month, Marks & Spencer say that XPO Logistics, the firm which will operate the new warehouse, will be recruiting for hundreds of vacancies in Milton Keynes over the coming weeks.

The good news for Milton Keynes, however, is tempered by reports that M&S is actually cutting 7,000 jobs across its overall UK business operations in the next three months due to a ‘material shift in trade’ in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The new M&S distribution facility in Milton Keynes covers an area of more than 30,000 square metres and should be ready for action in the next few weeks.

Once fully operational, the distribution centre in the Tattenhoe district of Milton Keynes will process and deliver M&S Food products throughout the South East of England.

Announcing the news, Stuart Machin, the managing director at M&S Food, said: “Our new distribution centre is great news for Milton Keynes and a major step forward for M&S, unlocking the value of our food supply chain and supporting our future growth plans.”.

“Many of our customers’ shopping habits have changed over recent months and our new distribution centre will enable us to respond faster and more flexibly to customer demand, providing greater product availability and significantly improving the service we provide our customers,” added Mr Machin.
