Amazon Announces 1,000 New UK Apprenticeships

Retailer Amazon has announced plans to create over 1,000 new apprenticeships in the United Kingdom before the end of 2020.

There will be vacancies for apprentices to sign up for Human Resources, IT, robotics, safety, software engineering and tech.

Almost 1 in 10 of the new Amazon apprenticeships will be graduate or postgraduate level, with salaries of up to £30,000 up for grabs.

Other new apprentices will be able to look forward to pay of at least £9.50 an hour for schemes lasting anywhere between 13 months and four years.

The apprenticeships will be based at various Amazon locations throughout the UK, including London, Edinburgh and Cambridge.

Announcing the new apprenticeships, Amazon UK country manager, Doug Gurr, said, “We want to give people opportunities to succeed in the digital age, regardless of their background.”

“Our fully-funded apprenticeship programme, from entry level through to degree level, will provide an exciting path to becoming Amazon’s future team leaders, engineers and innovation drivers,” added Mr Gurr.

Welcoming the announcement from Amazon, Margot James, the Minister of State at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport said: “It is great to see global tech giants, like Amazon, continue to invest in the UK and create high-skilled jobs for the next generation. Our booming digital sector is one of the fastest-growing industries in the country and this is a vote of confidence in our world-leading skills in tech innovation.”

Applications for the new Amazon apprenticeships will open at the start of next month (March 2019) with assessments being held for the vacancies during April and May. You can find out more about Amazon Apprenticeships in the UK on their website - where you can also see live opportunities.
