Facebook To Create 500 New Jobs In London

Facebook is to create 500 new jobs in London in a move which will see the social media behemoth increase its headcount in the UK’s capital by around 50 per cent.

Facebook already employs about 1,000 members of staff in London but is set to move to new offices in the Fitzrovia area of central London close to the West End in 2017, giving the firm more room to accommodate extra staff.

The new roles on offer at Facebook in London will include a mix of positions including sales teams, engineers, marketing staff and project managers.

Facebook’s head of Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Lady Nicola Mendelsohn, said: “The UK remains one of the best places to be a tech company and is an important part of Facebook’s story. We came to London in 2007 with just a handful of people, by the end of next year we will have opened a new HQ and plan to employ 1,500 people.”

“Many of those new roles will be high-skilled engineering jobs as the UK is home to our largest engineering base outside of the US,” added Lady Mendelsohn.

Commenting on Facebook’s announcement, London mayor, Sadiq Khan, said: “Facebook's decision to expand in London is further evidence that London's strength as a tech hub keeps on growing. The capital’s vibrant tech scene is the envy of Europe, and Facebook’s continuing commitment is another sign that London is open to talent, innovation and entrepreneurship from all four corners of the world.”

The announcement from Facebook follows hot on the heels of search engine giant leviathan Google announcing expansion plans in the UK which will see it add around 3,000 new jobs in London.

London is certainly the place to be for tech jobs and engineering roles, and we have loads of vacancies to be filled in both of those sectors. Apply for positions now via these pages:
