100 Hotel Jobs Up For Grabs In Cardiff

Recruitment is underway for 100 hotel jobs in Cardiff at the historic but disused Grade II Coal Exchange building. Open days are being held at the Coal Exchange today and tomorrow (29th/30th June 2016) to fill dozens of roles at the hotel for when restoration and conversion is complete.

The former market floor for the coal trade in Cardiff is being converted at a cost of £40 million into a 200 bedroom luxury hotel and spa which will be able to cater for weddings and other large events. Renovation work will get under way next month by Signature Living, a hotel developer and operator, and is expected to take around 18 months to reach completion. However, some parts of the hotel could be ready to open to the public before May next year.

Jobs on offer will include temporary jobs in the construction phase along with dozens of permanent full or part time hospitality, catering, leisure and administration jobs once the Coal Exchange is ready to start entertaining guests. Signature Living will also be looking to fill a number of managerial roles and apprenticeships at their new hotel in Cardiff.

Lawrence Kenwright, the founder of Signature Living, said: “We’re looking for the very best local talent to join Signature Living’s new team in Cardiff and I encourage people attend our recruitment days to look at some of the exciting roles available.”

“The Coal Exchange will become an amazing landmark hotel, wedding and events venue that the whole of Cardiff can be proud of. We’re very excited about delivering this project and restoring the building to its former glory,” added Mr Kenwright.

Mike Johnson, Director of Coal Exchange Cardiff, a part owner of the building, gave more details about the ethos which the hotel will project, saying: “I am delighted that people are uniting in getting behind Signature Living's project. With its every room reflecting the stories of King Coal and the old Bay, and a space dedicated to ensuring that the history of the Coal Exchange and the south Cardiff communities are preserved and accessible to all, the stories will continue to resonate all down the years.”
