Pets At Home, the UK’s biggest retailer of pet supplies, has announced expansion plans which could see it create around 450 full and part time jobs in the coming months.

Pets at Home is to open 60 new pet grooming salons, around 50 vet practices and 20 of their larger format superstores over the course of this year, creating hundreds of jobs across the UK.

A variety of roles will be on offer at the new Pets at Home outlets and practices, with some retail jobs available - mixed in with specialist grooming positions and vacancies for vets.

The expansion is fuelled by an almost insatiable demand for Britain’s pet owners to pamper their cats and dogs, leading to increases in both turnover and profit at Pets at Home.

Giving further details, Ian Kellett, chief executive of Pets at Home, said: “We'll create about 450 jobs overall with the addition of the new stores, vets and salons. We want to become the one stop shop for pet owners, who want happy and healthy pets.”

“The pet market has proved over time to be more resilient than general retail, so whilst consumer confidence may be more fragile, we believe our drive to become more specialist and most loved by customers will deliver further progress,” added Mr Kellett.

The Pets at Home chief executive was also unconcerned about next month’s upcoming Brexit vote, saying that ‘the pet market is always more resilient than general retail’ whether the UK decides to Leave or Remain in the European Union.
