Over 140 Jobs At New Falmouth & Sunderland Hotels

Two new hotel projects are set to create in excess of 140 full time positions, part time jobs and apprenticeships in Falmouth and Sunderland.

A new four star luxury hotel complex for Falmouth in Cornwall, to be called St Michaels Hotel & Spa, will come with a price tag of £30 million and will create around 90 jobs for the area. Meanwhile a new Premier Inn is planned for Sunderland, which the chain says will generate about 50 new hotel jobs.

The Falmouth hotel will feature 90 rooms, spa & health facilities, gyms, a large swimming pool, a function suite and many other features. It is hoped that work will be able to start on the new St Michaels Hotel & Spa Resort before the end of next year.

Commenting on the seafront development of St Michaels, Malcolm Bell, the head of of Tourism Services for Visit Cornwall, said: “This proposed development would deliver a much-needed investment in the quality of the offer to our visitors and it will be a boost not only for Falmouth, but also for Cornwall.”

Owner of the Cornish resort, Nigel Carpenter, praised the local community of Falmouth for throwing their weight behind the development and said he was very grateful to have their support for the scheme.

The new Premier Inn in Sunderland will come with a much smaller price tag of £7.5 million but will boast over 120 bedrooms and will add to the chains already enviable portfolio of over 50,000 hotel rooms in the United Kingdom.

Cluster general manager at Premier Inn, Louise Hope, said: “We are very excited to be opening this hotel early next year and being able to create 50 new jobs and two apprenticeships in the city. The hotel will not only help boost the City’s leisure and tourism industry but also regenerate a fantastic area back into a thriving location.”
