Lloyds Banking On More Women Interns Next Summer

Lloyds Banking Group are now advertising their 2015 summer internships through the employment4students website - and they are hoping to see an increase in female applicants this year.

Why focus on women?

Lloyds Banking Group obviously treat each and every application to their summer internships on individual merit rather than on the basis of gender, but the British financial services giant is on a major drive to attract more women to its workplace at senior levels over the next few years.

The overall workforce of Lloyds is made up of 58% women yet they remain underrepresented at senior levels. The company is seeking to redress this imbalance by identifying and removing the barriers to progression which women may face.

The FTSE 100 company is named as one of The Times Top 50 Employers for Women, and earlier this year made a public commitment to having 40% of its senior management roles occupied by women by 2020 (up from 29% currently).

In addition to better reflecting their customer base, Lloyds believe that gender balanced teams improve decision making, work more collaboratively and have a better approach to risks. So there’s a strong rationale behind the target.

Francesca Campalani, Senior Manager for Emerging Talent Attraction, Selection and Development, is passionate about the subject of diversity: “The future is changing - from the way that we work, to the customers that we serve - and our colleagues need to reflect this.”

“For the Emerging Talent team,” Francesca adds, “a diverse pipeline means more innovation, greater collaboration and a culture that embraces individuals and their uniqueness. Increasing the representation of women is just the start - we want to achieve diversity of thinking, diversity of personality, of style, of culture, of approach. We want to demonstrate that the most powerful leverage in business is the richness of the people who run them.”

While the target may involve senior roles, Lloyds understands that developing junior talent and inspiring more women at university to consider banking careers is key to success. This includes ensuring Lloyds have a great diversity of candidates competing for places on their summer internships, and that’s why they are recruiting through the e4s student website right now.

The Lloyds summer internships offer £18,000 salary (pro-rata) and runs for 10 weeks - from June to September. There are five different areas of opportunity available nationwide:

- Customer Facing Management
- Business & Innovation Technology
- Business & Change - Solutions
- Business & Change- Infrastructure
- Employee & Customer Experience

Applications for 2015 are now open, to both men and women, so, if you are a penultimate year student and would like to gain a placement with one of the leading names in financial services, then apply for the Lloyds Banking Group 2015 Summer Internship now
