160 Gloucester Jobs Could Be Created By Tesco

31 May 2011

160 Gloucester Jobs Could Be Created By Tesco Tesco supermarket could create up to 160 full or part time jobs in Gloucester by building a new flagship store in the city.

Tesco already have a presence in the location that is earmarked, but they have plans to knock down the existing store at St Oswald's Retail Park to make way for a new one triple the size.

The demolition of the old Tesco and construction of the new store could cost upwards of £25 million but it is forecast that 160 new Gloucester jobs will be created if it goes ahead.

The new store could be open before the end of next year and local councillor Paul James said it was great news for Gloucester and the jobs would be a boost for the city.

Corporate affairs manager with Tesco, Sophie Akokhia, spoke of some of the benefits that the new store could bring to Gloucester: “We would like to bring the very latest concept in Tesco shopping to Gloucester and we think the site is the perfect location for this. We already have a successful and popular store on St Oswald's Road and would now like to take this to the next level by expanding the range and choice of shopping available in a strikingly designed, flagship store for the South West.”
