John Lewis Pledges Over 4,000 Full Or Part Time Jobs This Year The John Lewis Partnership has said that its stores will create over 4,000 full and part time jobs this year.

The Partnership, which consists of John Lewis department stores, the Waitrose supermarket chain and the John Lewis online catalogue business, added 4,100 jobs to the UK economy last year and expects to at least match that scale of job creation this year.

Indeed, Charlie Mayfield, the chairman of the John Lewis Partnership has said that as many as 4,300 full or part time jobs could be advertised by his company in 2011. Around 3,000 of the new jobs will be created at Waitrose and the balance of the vacancies will be at John Lewis itself.

“We have made great progress this year in combining our John Lewis online operations with our shops to offer our customers greater choice and flexibility. We are trialling new formats such as “John Lewis at home” and Waitrose convenience and the results are encouraging,” said Mr Mayfield.

All of the 76,500 staff with the John Lewis Partnership are set to benefit from a percentage of the bonus pool of over £190 million announced this week. Each slice of that cake that a staff member receives will account for approximately 9 weeks’ wages.
