Boohoo To Create 5,000 New Full Or Part Time Jobs In The UK

Online retailer Boohoo has announced plans to create 5,000 new full or part time jobs in the UK.

The fashion company, founded in 2006 and headquartered in Manchester, is to invest £500 million to grow its business, both here and overseas, in the next five years.

The recruitment drive for new staff at Boohoo is massive, with the retailer employing just short of 3,500 people at the start of this year, after taking on almost 1,300 in the last twelve months alone.

The new hiring spree will see the group increase its headcount by a further 140 per cent before the end of 2026.

A variety of roles will be on offer, with buying vacancies, HR positions, logistics roles and tech jobs all set to be up for grabs at Boohoo. Other departments which will be hiring include accounts, design, ecommerce and digital.

Like many online retailers, Boohoo benefitted from the closure of traditional high street stores during the worst days of the pandemic lockdowns. In the financial year to the end of February 2021, Boohoo reported increased revenues of over 40 per cent and pre tax profits were up 35 per cent.

Announcing the expansion plans at his company, Boohoo group’s chief executive officer, John Lyttle, said: “The growth this business has experienced over the last 15 years has been phenomenal. It has not been without its challenges, but it is right to celebrate the significant contributions the company makes to the towns and communities where we operate.”

“The investments we have planned will help us to continue our growth, increasing our customer base both at home and abroad, adding even more value as we do so.”

“All of this has only been possible because of the amazing people who form our boohoo family. I am so proud of the way they rise to every challenge and I look forward to growing together as we cement our position as leaders in global fashion e-commerce,” added Mr Lyttle.
