Tesco Creating Over 28,500 Seasonal Jobs For Christmas 2025
Tesco has announced plans to hire over 28,500 temporary staff across the UK to help keep shelves stocked and customers happy throughout the busy Christmas period.
The supermarket giant will be taking on extra colleagues across more than 700 Superstores and Extra branches, with flexible shift options that include early mornings, daytime and evenings. Pay rates start out at just over £12.60 per hour and Christmas seasonal staff are also entitled to some perks and benefits at Tesco.
Many of the roles are ideal for students, part time workers or anyone looking to earn some extra money over the holidays while gaining valuable retail experience.
Seasonal staff will play a key role in helping shoppers enjoy a smooth Christmas, taking on a variety of positions including serving customers, restocking shelves and picking online orders for home delivery.
Tesco says it is looking for enthusiastic and friendly people who enjoy working as part of a team and can help deliver great service during one of the busiest times of the year.
Announcing the festive hiring spree, the Group People Services Director at Tesco, Elzbieta (Ela) Golab, said: “We’re excited to be recruiting festive colleagues to help make it a season to remember for our customers. With the busy Christmas period ahead, we are looking for people who can bring warmth, enthusiasm and a helpful service to every shopping trip.”
“The jobs will range from serving customers and stocking shelves, to picking orders for home delivery. No day is ever the same and festive colleagues will be able to feel the impact they make on every shift, as they send customers home with a smile. What's more, no experience is necessary - just the right attitude,” added Ms Golab.
In addition to competitive pay, the roles come with the chance to learn practical skills and build experience that could lead to long term employment. Many temporary Christmas workers go on to secure permanent positions with Tesco after the festive season ends, making it a good opportunity for those thinking about a future career in retail.
For example, Emma Richardson Brown joined Tesco as a seasonal Christmas recruit in November 2023 but has moved up through the ranks and is now a Fresh Food Team Manager at the supermarket chain.
Commenting on her own experiences as an employee, Emma said: “I love working for Tesco, as every day is different with a new set of challenges. It’s great to work as part of a fantastic team and there’s a culture, mainly driven by our store manager. You can be yourself and bring your own personality to work and have a bit of fun.”
“Throughout my journey I have had fantastic support from everybody in the store team and would recommend to anybody that wants to progress within Tesco to set your goals high and your hard work and dedication will be rewarded. Good luck to everybody applying,” added Ms Richardson Brown.
Applications are already open and it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible if you are interested in one of the vacancies, as festive roles tend to fill up fast.
