Lidl To Create Dozens Of New Full & Part Time Jobs In Walsall
The German supermarket giant Lidl is set to significantly expand its presence in Walsall, with plans to build a new store and a massive distribution warehouse.
The proposals could create dozens of full and part time jobs in Walsall for student job seekers in the Staffordshire market town.
The discount retail chain has submitted a planning application to Walsall Council for the development, which includes demolishing existing warehouse space and constructing a new 2,000+ square meter retail store on Walsall’s Green Lane.
The new store is expected to create around 40 new positions initially, and further vacancies could be on offer once the warehouse is ready for action.
Outline proposals for the new Lidl supermarket and warehouse say: "The application proposes a new warehouse and distribution building to the north of Newfield Close, following the demolition of the existing buildings on site.”
“The development for a new Lidl foodstore represents a significant economic investment by Lidl and will facilitate the retention of existing jobs whilst increasing job opportunities as the foodstore will employ around 40 members of staff once opened. These job opportunities will principally be taken by local residents.”
“Lidl has a policy of employing local people from all backgrounds to work in their stores. This allows for a short commute to work and for staff to potentially work at short notice.”
“A number of additional jobs will be created through the proposed warehouse and distribution floorspace.”
Walsall Council is expected to make a decision on Lidl’s planning application by March.
Lidl has been trading in the UK for 30 years and is edging nearer to reaching the impressive milestone of 1,000 supermarkets. The company employs more than 30,000 members of staff in full and part time jobs in locations all over the country.
