Greggs Creating 500 New Full & Part Time Jobs In Derby

Popular bakery chain Greggs is set to create 500 new full and part time jobs in Derby with the opening of a new manufacturing facility in the city.

The high street chain has plans to build a new plant at Derby’s Spondon SmartParc SEGRO in 2027, creating hundreds of jobs in the next few years.

The company also has further plans to acquire land in other East Midland areas such as Corby and Kettering to increase their presence in the region.

Announcing the latest development, a spokesperson for Greggs said: “We're delighted to confirm Greggs has entered into an agreement for lease for a new state-of-the-art frozen production and logistics site at SmartParc SEGRO Derby, in line with the company's longer-term growth plans.”

“The purpose-built facility will be the focus of Greggs' increased manufacturing capacity needs whilst also supporting the expansion of the company's logistics network,” added the spokesperson.

The leader of Derby City Council, Baggy Shanker, welcomed the announcement, saying: “We're very excited to welcome Greggs to SmartParc SEGRO Derby. Greggs is such a well-known brand and choosing Derby as the location for the expansion of their operations shows how renowned our city is as a centre for innovation and manufacturing.”

“The arrival of another national company to SmartParc is the latest in a long line of positive developments at the site which will bring further good quality, sustainable jobs and increase opportunities for our citizens,” said the councillor.

A spokesperson for Spondon Councillors also commented, saying: “Greggs have announced they are currently building on the site which will see the manufacturing of sausage rolls and doughnuts right here in Spondon for distribution across the UK.”

“This is fantastic news and after meeting representatives today from SmartParc we welcomed the news and pushed the workforce available in Spondon and through apprenticeships of our schools. We believe the site will come online in 2025 and will create roughly 500 jobs.”

Greggs has almost 2,500 outlets across the UK so there is a great chance that they will be hiring in a location not too far from you.
