Cleverchefs Creating 150 Catering Jobs Across The UK

Cleverchefs, a catering firm based in Cardiff, is creating 150 new jobs across the United Kingdom.

The company, which specialises in catering for schools and colleges, is expanding after receiving funding from the HSBC bank.

Cleverchefs plans to launch 40 new catering centres in southern England and Wales, a move which will allow the company to serve up school meals to over 70,000 more students each week across the UK.

The ambitious expansion plans will create around 125 catering vacancies before the end of September and a further 25 jobs before the end of 2022.

Since the catering firm now employs around 350 members of staff, the recruitment drive will see Cleverchefs expand its UK headcount by over 40 per cent to cross the 500 employee milestone.

Cleverchefs also forecasts that the plans will grow its turnover from current levels of around £7 million to approximately £12 million per year.

The company started out just seven years ago as a catering supplier to weddings and other events. The pandemic saw Cleverchefs expanding its reach to the education sector, where it now focuses most of its business model.

Commenting on the expansion plans, Cleverchefs’ chief executive officer and founder, Nick Collins, said: “Expanding the number of schools and colleges that we serve fresh and fun food to is fantastic for our business, but more importantly it supports our aim of improving food nutrition in the education settings across the UK.”

“A chef-led business is what makes this rapidly expanding company different. We live and breathe food, taking creativity to a new level. HSBC’s support has played a crucial part in the expansion process, and the funding has been a central part of our mission to make food the highlight of everyone’s day.”

“We are looking forward to delivering creative and nutritious meals to even more children for many years to come,” added Mr Collins.

HSBC’s regional business banking relationship manager for the area, Ceri Thomas, also commented, saying: “We’re thrilled to be supporting such an innovative business with ambitious expansion plans. This growth will allow more pupils to enjoy healthy and balanced meals at school, and for parents or guardians to feel the benefits too.”
