The 2 Sisters Food Group has signed new contracts with Marks & Spencer which will create around 200 full or part time jobs in Carlisle.
The jobs will be based at Carlisle’s Cavaghan and Gray factory on Durranhill Industrial Estate and the new deal with M&S will lead to a £7 million extension being built, creating hundreds of jobs for the Cumbrian town.
The 2 Sisters Food Group has worked with M&S for five decades but has now added contracts to supply a further 30 products for the retailer, including their fish and GastroPub ranges.
Cavaghan and Gray have two sites in Carlisle and currently provide jobs for around 1,250 people, meaning that their new recruitment drive will see them increase their headcount in the town by more than 15 per cent.
Commenting on the new contracts, site director for the Cavaghan and Gray factory, William Duncanson, said: “We are extremely proud to have worked closely with M&S for many years and to have been trusted with the production of even more exciting food ranges. We take a huge amount of pride in delivering and creating their quality products.”
“The team here at Cavaghan and Gray are enormously hard-working and this investment will allow us to continue doing what we love, producing tasty, high quality food that customers love,” added Mr Duncanson.
The Chief Executive Officer of the 2 Sisters Food Group, Ronald Kers, also commented, saying: “Our vision is to create a truly world-class business who is trusted to deliver, so we are delighted such a prestigious customer as M&S recognise and value us as a reliable partner with the ability to create quality food, for the right price in a sustainable and transparent way.”
Local Carlisle MP John Stevenson welcomed the announcement, saying: “This is absolutely fantastic news for Carlisle. It demonstrates the confidence that 2 Sisters have in their workforce and the city. The creation of 200 jobs for a city of our size is extremely significant and must be hugely welcomed.
“A £7m investment into our city demonstrates that businesses have confidence in Carlisle and there is a growing confidence in the economic success of our city, as demonstrated by this investment and other investments that are going on. We have got to keep ensuring that people realise just how good Carlisle is,” said Mr Stevenson.
