bet365 To Create 100 Tech Positions In Manchester, Some Graduate IT Jobs

Gambling firm bet365 is to create 100 new jobs in Manchester, with the company looking to take on more graduates with experience in tech.

The world’s biggest online gambling platform currently has a 200-strong tech team in Manchester but is looking to increase its headcount by fifty per cent in the North West city and is keen to bring more graduates into the fold.

The new recruits will work from new offices on floor five of the Zenith building on Manchester’s Spring Gardens and bet365 will work together with the University of Manchester to encourage graduates to join their team in the city.

bet365’s head of systems development, Warren Hughes, said that Manchester had a very competitive jobs market for tech specialists, describing the trend of developers hopping from company to company as the ‘Northern carousel.’

Commenting on the bet365’s recruitment strategy, Mr Hughes said: “We have enjoyed rapid growth since we came to the city two years ago but what’s equally encouraging is our ability to retain the talent we recruit. The Manchester office was initially focused on expanding and supporting the software development function.”

“Due to its success, we’ve taken the decision to broaden our remit further and have now started to recruit for infrastructure positions. We entered Manchester with a view to starting small and strong by taking on experienced developers who could deliver quickly.”

“As the department has matured, we feel we are ideally placed to bring junior developers and graduates into an environment where they will have strong mentorship through these earlier and important stages of their career. This is no longer a small gathering of developers but a software development function that has matured and seen every team grow significantly with developers, testers, analysts and project managers now present,” added Mr Hughes.

As well as employing 200 staff in Manchester, bet365 also provides jobs for over 4,000 people. Worldwide, the online gambling company has over 30 million customers and is continuing to grow rapidly, with revenue up by almost 40 per cent over the last twelve months.

bet365 is based in Stoke-on-Trent, and, explaining the opportunities for advancement at the company, Gareth Snell, MP for Stoke Central, said: “It’s the largest employer in my constituency, outside the hospital. One of the things I’ve always seen with bet365 is it has really good career progression opportunities.”

“People can go into bigger and better roles within the company. That’s a really important message. The fact it’s investing in the long-term is brilliant,” added Mr Snell.
