Electricity Firm Creating Dozens Of Apprenticeships In The North West
SP Electricity North West, an energy firm which runs and maintains the electricity infrastructure across the North West, has opened applications for its latest apprenticeship intake, offering 30 new roles for 2025.
The company is looking for enthusiastic school leavers and early career applicants to help modernise and maintain the region’s power network. Apprentices will play a key role in upgrading underground power cables and overhead lines, as well as supporting the rollout of smarter, greener technologies across local communities.
As well as hands-on technical roles, the programme includes apprenticeships in project management, IT, cyber security and design engineering - giving applicants a chance to combine practical experience with advanced training in one of the UK’s fastest-growing industries.
SP Electricity North West’ apprenticeship scheme has boasted a 90 per cent completion rate, significantly higher than the national average of 60 per cent. Apprentices are supported throughout their training, earning while they learn and gaining professional qualifications that can lead to long-term careers in the clean energy sector.
The company currently employs more than 100 apprentices across different stages of their training and says this latest recruitment round is part of its ongoing investment in the future workforce.
SP Electricity North West’s apprenticeship programme manager, Chris Havard, said: “We’re proud to operate a growing, award-winning apprenticeship programme which develops talent across the North West region. Each year, we go from strength to strength. We listen to apprentices, take feedback on board to ensure we provide the best possible programme for our students.”
“Our success rate speaks for itself and we’ve a diverse range of roles on offer. All of our apprentices that have qualified have been offered full-time roles within the business and we’re excited to receive a variety of applications from across the region,” added Mr Havard.
The company’s chief operating officer, Stephanie Trubshaw, also commented, saying: “We’re delivering green growth through investment in our network, supporting the region’s residents and businesses to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels for transport and heating by switching to electricity, as well as generating their own clean energy by connecting solar panels to our network.”
“Apprentices play a crucial role in our business, we invest significantly each year and will continue to do so to ensure we have a workforce for the future with the necessary skills.”
The announcement comes as the UK Government sets out ambitious plans to create 400,000 new jobs in clean energy by 2030, meaning new apprentices will be joining an industry on the rise.
Applications for SP Electricity North West apprenticeships are now open online and we encourage you to apply early to secure a place.
