Job Description

PETA Ltd are looking to source an exceptional Plate Welder Apprentice for our client. You will be learning how to produce high strength welds using two manual arc welding process including Tungsten Inert Gas and Metal Inert Gas. This will be in two different material types, Mild Steel and Aluminium in two welding positions. You will be setting and /or controlling welding parameters e.g. current, arc length, angle and speed.This programme forms part of your companies succession planning for the future. The company will support your personal and professional development.Training to be providedThroughout the duration of the apprenticeship you will be required to attend PETA's Havant training facility for off-the-job training. This will start as 15 months of day release to complete your foundation skills training which will include working safely, carrying out activities efficiently and effectively and using technical information. You will also learn how to prepare and use Manual Metal Arc, Metal Inert Gas and Tungsten Inert Gas welding equipment. Your Level 3 development programme will include a technical certificate and development competence qualification.Overall duration 42 months.About the role You will learn how to plan and prepare for the welding of componentsYou will become competent interpreting technical specificationsYou will learn how to check that materials conform to the specified grades, dimensions and thicknessesYou will become competent preparing and inspecting preparations to weldYou will learn how to set the welding equipment and make adjustments as requiredYou will become competent making joints to the specified dimensions using appropriate welding techniqueYou will learn how to visually inspect alignment and distortion of components making adjustments as requiredYou will be restoring the work area and equipment to a safe and reliable condition upon completion of your workBenefits Wage will increase year 2 £15,273.00, year 3 £20,298.00, year 4 £26,500.00Auto-enrolled into the company pension scheme after qualification period21 days holiday plus bank holidays (3 days to be taken at Christmas)Free parking on siteOnsite restroom with kitchen facilitiesOvertime available (time & half after 37 hours)Essential Skills2 GCSE's at grade C or above (or equivalents) to include Maths and English are essential.Your motivation and drive are the assets that will be best appreciated.You will possess good communication skills with the ability to communicate with peers and managementYou will need to be open minded and willing to develop your knowledge and skills to support your future developmentDesirable SkillsYou will have a good level of dexterity hand skillsDemonstrate an interest in contributing towards manufacturing mechanical components are desirableYou will have good hand to eye co-ordination and hand skillsYour logical approach to problem solving will enable you to perform to make a good contribution to all aspects of the jobYou need to be able to learn through instruction and experienceAbout CompanyOur client provide mechanical, electrical engineering solutions to the marine, oil and gas sectors.
