Job Description

Morrison Water Services is recruiting for a number of Apprentice Water Network Operatives, to work on our United Utilities contract in the North West of England. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain recognised and accredited qualifications whilst you earn and gain a vast amount of experience within a highly respected company. The role will involve constructing and maintaining the water networks in the North West of England to assist United Utilities in providing a top quality water service for the people who live in the area.Specific activities relating to Water Mains and Service Laying: Repair and Maintenance (R&M) of the existing Water network, where you will learn how to repair faults and other damage to water mains and services Installing water services and ancillary structures, you will prepare for and install water mains or services using a variety of jointing techniquesKnowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience: You will ideally have a basic level of numeracy and literacy and will undertake Functional Skills Level 1 as part of the Apprenticeship programme, which is equivalent to GCSE qualifications You will need to demonstrate an interest and enthusiasm to work outdoors You must possess a high degree of manual dexterity demonstrated through the use of hand tools At the interview stage, you will be required to provide proof of your right to work in the UK Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time the apprenticeship program commences Applicants must demonstrate an excellent attitude to learning and respect for those teaching, both in the field and within the college As a qualified Water Network Operative, you may be required to drive a company van, to commute to client sites You must be able to travel to your home depot or work site every day, potentially at unsocial hours, and must possess a full manual driving license by the end of the apprenticeship programme Apprenticeship StandardApprentices will undergo training at the Utility & Construction Training Ltd (UCT) based in Carrington, Manchester. Here they will acquire the basic knowledge, skills and competence to enable them to work productively within the water network. The remainder of your time will be spent under supervision on site at Morrison Water Services and United Utilities.Whilst training at the UCT your travel to Manchester, hotel accommodation, and all meals will be provided.Apprenticeship Development Scheme in DepthAs an Apprentice within Morrison Water Services, you will undertake both a technical programme as well as our internal EU Skills endorsed Apprenticeship Development Scheme (ADS) programme.The ADS programme is a blend of online and face to face sessions, involving the development of soft skills and being supported by mental health/pastoral care. Some elements of the scheme are residential, which will take place around England. Therefore, applicants must be prepared to travel and stay away from home.The remainder of your time will be spent with our training provider or under their supervision on site.Whilst on your apprentice programme, your travel to and from the providers' locations, hotel accommodation, and all meals will be provided.Career DevelopmentOur apprentices start the training program on £9.67 per hour which has the annual salary equivalent of £22,627.We are very keen that our apprentices develop and progress within our business, to reinforce the skills needed to deliver future work within the water sector. Beyond the apprenticeship, there will opportunities to take the next step in your career, into roles such as First Line Supervisor's.
