Job Description

BAE Systems Land UK design and manufacture a wide range of munitions products. It is essential that our products are high quality and totally conform to the customer’s requirements.As an Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (OME) Apprentice you will be responsible for safely participating in the research & development of new energetic materials using novel materials and processing techniques. This role is wide-ranging and has both practical and theoretical elements. You will often be viewed as a multi-disciplined engineer, with knowledge of a wide range of energetic materials.We will help you develop into an energetics material scientist who delivers safe, capable processes for optimised Test and Evaluation disciplines to specified standards.What does the Apprenticeship involve? - Working closely within the Energetics Engineering Team at Glascoed. - Planning and subsequent delivery of research & development and engineering trials. - Using advanced instrumentation and equipment to characterise energetic materials. - Taking the opportunity to assist in Continuous Improvement projects. - Planning, carrying out and reporting results from Test and Evaluation trials. - Compiling technical data to support design approval. - Supporting experienced engineers, specifying and qualifying new equipment used to manufacture munitions products. - Ensuring there is a detailed Safe System of Work in place for the work you develop. - Gaining knowledge and experience from supporting the Manufacturing Team in resolving any issues that may arise. - Attending block release at University to study for academic elements of apprenticeship.Qualification requirementsTo apply, you’ll need five GCSE's or equivalent at grades 9-4 / A*-C including maths, English and science or STEM subject and 96 UCAS points - three A Levels Grade A-C, or equivalent, including maths and chemistry.Overview of business unitBAE Systems is proud to equip the British Armed Forces and international customers with a range of munition products, from small arms ammunition through to heavy artillery, tank ammunition and warheads and payloads.Our munitions have been proven in every possible environment over many decades, with our specialist engineers continually making performance improvements.
