To apply for this job, you must be claiming Universal Credit and 16 to 24 years old.EMPLOYERTHE GIFT BOX (GLASGOW) LTDJOB SUMMARYAs a Trainee Retail Assistant you'll be central to the smooth and efficient daily process and procedures relative to our business needs and objectives and provide outstanding customer service to our clients and customer base. Reporting to the Store Manager we will support you to develop the key skills to succeed in a fast-paced retail environment. You'll offer a tailored approach to customer service and be able to sell the right product to every customer. Offer a high level of customer service, always putting the customer first. Create a great first impression on customers entering the store by being friendly and approachable. Demonstrate how adept you are at selling by identifying customer preference by understanding their budget and requirements. Promote offers and schemes available to each customer. Handle customer queries and complaints with confidence and know when to escalate to a manager. Use your training to bring products to life by using great knowledge and understanding of customer needs. Have a good understanding of your targets and goals, using your sales skills to achieve them. Contribute to day to day operations of the store, ensuring stock levels are maintained and pricing is accurate and clear. Support with deliveries, ensuring products are replenished as required. Keep the shop floor, workshop and back of house clean and tidy by completing cleaning tasks during the day. We are a long established and family run licenced newsagent and convenience store located in Greenock, Inverclyde and currently employ five staff. We operate in a prominent trading location and offer a comprehensive range of products and services including National Lottery, Payzone, magazines, newspapers, food and drinks, alcohol and much more. We consistently put forward the best experience of instore services to our customers. We are able to ensure that because we train our staff to the highest standards.SKILLS NEEDEDDue to the highly social nature of this role and the responsibilities of dealing with customers on a daily basis, a successful Retail Assistant will require good interpersonal and communication skills, a helpful and friendly manner, the ability to work with money, good problem-solving skills and above all the ability to work efficiently as part of a team.WORKING HOURSFlexible days - Flexible hoursHOURLY RATENational minimum wageADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORTLine Managers and experienced staff will ensure the young person understands the way the team pulls together on a day-to-day basis on the job and their role within that. They will offer clear, concise instructions and encourage them to ask questions if at all unsure of what's being asked of them. Trainees will participate in a number of in-house training modules including Personal Licence, Manual Handling, Fire Safety, Health & Safety at Work and Food Hygiene. Trainees will also be supported with a tailored range of employability training sessions that will be delivered both remotely and on-site incorporating regular placement reviews. The Initial training modules will best prepare, equip, and enable them to make a smooth transition into the workplace. These sessions will focus on building self-confidence and resilience, workplace behaviour, time management and include a wellbeing toolkit. Further modules cover team working and effective communication, problem solving, planning and good organisation. Latterly training will reflect more practical job search activities like interview and application techniques. Trainees will be supported to produce tailored, succinct, and professionally formatted CV's and engage in role play to fine-tune their telephone, group and competency-based interview skills. By the end of the training, we are confident they will be far better equipped to obtain and sustain employment as they will be in a better position to self-assess and reflect upon their new knowledge about the world of work and their own valuable transferable skills.
