Job Description

Science and Technology Facilities Council The Programmes Directorate is responsible for the development of the science and technology strategy for STFC, for turning this strategy into detailed programme delivery plans and for overseeing delivery of the programme against these plans. The Programme Support Group manages and coordinates administrative activities for the Programmes Directorate. The group will deliver efficiencies and smooth peaks and troughs and be able to more readily respond to ad-hoc activities within the Directorate. The Programme Support Group will also provide focus for ensuring consistency and best practice for activities within scope of the group. Summary of Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Programme Support Group is responsible for providing support and administrative functions to the STFC Programmes Directorate. This includes: Secretariat support for Science Programme advisory, peer review and other meetings including compiling agendas, preparation and distribution of meeting papers Organising and supporting internal and external meetings Project support Event management Travel bookings Maintaining web pages and extranet sites Processing expenses and invoices Contributing to development of processes and procedures Handling enquiries and other general administration requirements Work collaboratively with Programme Support Group colleagues to manage the workload across the team. Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceStrong interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact effectively at all levels both in STFC and externally with the scientific community. You will be capable of working effectively within a team environment and contributing to team motivation, as well as working with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will have an ability to think creatively, to take on responsibility for different tasks and to seek and accept change and continuous improvement. You should be able to demonstrate a high level of drive, enthusiasm and focus on the achievement of goals. You should have an enthusiasm for the science we do and be able to demonstrate good analytical skills, as well as the ability to prioritise and organise work to meet deadlines. In order to apply for this role you have: Essential Obtained first degree bachelors or Masters, (not doctorate) in a relevant subject in either 2020, 2021 or be due to receive it in 2022 Expected or have achieved a 2:1 or above The right to live and work in the UK Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team, and deal with both internal and external contacts Strong planning, organisational and analytical skills Good prioritisation skills Good oral and written communication skills. Desirable Effective management skills including organising and delegating work to meet deadlines Experience of working across multiple teams
