Job Description

Overview An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Chelmsford EHS team as an Environment Health, Safety Apprentice. The Apprentice will support and assist the EHS team to deliver an excellent service to all stakeholders and to comply with relevant legislation.The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, proactive, and keen to learn, and will be supported to develop the skills required of a competent health, safety, and environment professional.We will train and develop you to degree level in Occupational Health and Safety with the goal of you becoming a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner – CMIOSH.The Apprentice will report to the Head of Environment Health and Safety but work directly with the EHS Advisors and Co-ordinators. Position Summary and Responsibilities Main Responsibilities:Supporting the EHS team which will include but is not limited to:Adhering to and promoting all required health, safety and welfare policies established by the facility.Undertaking activities to support compliance with health and safety legislation, e.g. fire safety checks, safety signage audits, first aid checks.Administration of computer and database systems, including maintenance of records and preparation of documents for issue.Assisting with the display screen equipment (DSE) assessment programme, e.g. reviewing DSE self-assessment forms, and assisting with workstation assessments.Assisting with incident investigations, causation analysis, identification and implementation of corrective actions, and presentation of data.Supporting the audit and inspection programme by assisting with audit scheduling, gathering of evidence, and identification and implementation of corrective actions.Assisting with the delivery of virtual and face-to-face health, safety & environment training for staff and students, e.g. new starter inductions.Supporting EHS engagement events and activities.Supporting the EHS team’s commitment to continuous improvement of health & safety management on site.Positively influencing safety behaviours in others and helping to resolve health & safety challenges.Essential Experience/Competencies:Good written and oral communication skillsAccurate data recording with good attention to detailGood organisational skillsExperience of Microsoft OfficeSelf-motivated and proactiveAble to exercise total discretion with confidential and sensitive informationA keen interest in health, safety, and environmental managementAn appreciation and basic understanding of the organisation and its sectorsResponsible for personal aspects of qualification, which will include but is not limited to:Completion of assignments within agreed time frame.Attendance at all tutor led sessions.This job description is only an outline of the tasks, responsibilities and outcomes required of the role.
