Job Description

The practitioner will be responsible to the Headteachers and teacher for delivering high standards of care and education for children between 2 and 5 years of age, in accordance with statutory requirements. You will implement the daily routines and contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of pupils. You will support the smooth running of the Foundation Stage under the constant supervision and guidance of your mentor or qualified functions :• Model positivity, passion and show a commitment to Hillview Nursery school.• Be committed to teamwork through valuing all team members and being committed to effective communication• Treat pupils and staff with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a member of staff’s professional position• Be a reflective and honest practitioner• Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school• Report any concerns about children to the teacher or headteacher or safeguarding officer.• Interact with children using appropriate language and body language• Provide a friendly, caring and relaxing environment in order to encourage confidence, independence and help children to learn.• Assist in maintaining a safe, clean and tidy nursery and ensure daily routines are adhered to.• Keep accurate observations of children’s learning with support from mentor.• Demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour which is expected of pupils• Develop effective, professional relationships with colleagues, knowing how and when to draw on advice and specialist support SUPPORT FOR PUPILS Supervise and provide particular support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans Manage behaviour effectively to ensure an effective and safe learning environment SUPPORT FOR THE TEACHER Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals Assist with the planning of learning activities Monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed SUPPORT FOR THE CURRICULUM Undertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use Prepare, maintain and use equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity and assist pupils in their use SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL Appreciate and support the role of other professionalsAttend and participate in relevant meetings as required
