Job Description

The job in a nutshell

This role is responsible for all areas of statutory compliance, tax compliance, ensuring and maintaining a suitable internal control framework, control and reporting of property finance cost areas, treasury management, fixed asset control and Spanish finance.

This is a 6 month role that will be based from Head Office in Thame (OX9 3AT) with some scope for working from home to fit with the needs of the team and business.

What youll be doing:

You will lead a team which includes 3 direct reports (Head of Accounting & Corporate Reporting, Payroll Manager and Systems Support Manager) to ensure the below areas are all delivered:

Statutory compliance

    Preparing and ensuring compliance to the timetable for a successful audit;

    Ensuring accounts are prepared on a timely and accurate basis;

    Filing of the Groups statutory accounts;

    Building and maintaining relationships with the Groups auditors; and

    Ensuring an appropriate Group company structure is maintained.

Tax Compliance

    Ensure the Group remains compliant for all tax filings including Corporation tax (through working with the Groups outsourced tax advisors), VAT, PAYE, CIS, stamp duty and environmental taxes; and

    Maintain appropriate control systems to ensure compliance, including making tax digital.

Internal Controls

    Ensure appropriate processes, systems and controls are in place and operate effectively to accurately report results on a timely basis and provide accurate balance sheet positions at each month end; and

    Ensure regular review of the Groups balance sheet; and

    Prepare for the new UK internal controls regime.

Property finance

    Ensure accurate reporting of property finance cost lines including rent, rates, service charge and insurance across cashflow, profit & loss and balance sheets;

    Ensure accurate and timely payments to landlords / managing agents;

    Build and maintain relationships with landlords / managing agents and work with other areas of the business such estates and development; and

    Proactively review for cost savings.

Treasury management

    Ensure appropriate controls, checks and balances are in place to ensure the Groups risk of cash fraud or error is minimised;

    Ensure appropriate authorisation levels are in place and operating effectively to support the business;

    Ensure compliance with the Groups investment policies, interest rate and foreign currency policies including any hedging;

    Ensure covenant calculations are completed in an accurate and timely fashion; and

    Ensure the Groups debt is reported accurately and that interest rolls and payments are made on time.

Fixed asset control

    Ensure the Group has appropriate systems in place to report on and control capital expenditure and assets; and

    Work with and support other areas of the business, mainly development, maintenance and IT with their forward plans.

Essential:

    Graduate, qualified accountant

    Experience working in a complex, multi site environment

    Management of a large team with varied remit

    Attention to detail

    Strong financial reporting skills and knowledge of IFRS and UKGAAP including FRS102.

    Ability to manage numerous deadlines and projects simultaneously

    Proactive attitude with get up and go

    Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse areas of the business,

    Ability to use own initiative and confident to challenge and present own point of view concisely and effectively,

    Be able to express and resolve queries in a concise and timely manner in order to meet business deadlines,

    Strong IT skills
