Job Description

Dains Accountants has a busy and thriving payroll services department with ambitions to grow and improve its service offering to clients.

We are currently recruiting for a Payroll Technician to provide a seamless delivery of key payroll processes, to a high standard and to agreed client deadlines. We are looking for someone with payroll knowledge and experience but who also has a background within some type of customer service environment and who therefore understands the importance of providing a quality service, to our clients. The ideal candidate will be focussed, driven and keen to develop themselves with the help and support that we can provide.

Working within an extremely fast paced environment you will be responsible for your own portfolio of clients. You will need to juggle multiple payrolls at once, so we need someone who thrives under pressure and has a keen eye for detail.

The working arrangements in the role are flexible and it can suit full or part-time working but there is a need to work 8.30am to 6.00pm on the busiest six days in the department each month. Home working is encouraged and supported alongside time in the office (dependent on Covid measures) to benefit from interactions with other members of the team.

Dains is a TOP 60 regional firm of accountants & business advisers specialising in growing owner managed businesses in the Midlands. We have grown by over 25% in the last 3 years. Our primary offices are in Birmingham, Burton on Trent, Derby, Lichfield, and Stoke on Trent.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years' experience, within payroll. You will need to be forward thinking and have a positive, can-do attitude.

Responsibilities:

  • To prepare a range of payrolls of varying complexity in accordance with the client's deadlines
  • To be pro-active in advising clients in relation to payroll compliance
  • To accurately complete bank payments on behalf of the client, providing details to the bank by set deadlines
  • To complete HMRC returns such as full payment submissions and employment payment submissions
  • To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation
  • To understand and keep up to date on the different types of pension schemes and how to calculate pension payments accurately
  • To plan your own workload with some input from a Manager where required
  • To assist in the development of the department, including constantly looking for ways to improve delivery and service to clients
  • To maintain the upkeep of payroll files to specified standards
  • To ensure client satisfaction at all times
