Job Description

4 weeks – commencing end June 2021Trinity College is seeking a high-achieving intern to support the Senior Bursar and the team in meeting our targets for the management of a £1.5 billion endowment. The position is due to commence at the end of June. You will work directly with the Strategy and Investment Officer and will be fully immersed in the team.About Trinity CollegeTrinity College, founded in 1546 by Henry VIII, is the largest College in the University of Cambridge, with some 600 undergraduates, 300 graduate students, over 180 Fellows and around 350 non-academic staff. Trinity’s endowment is the largest of all Cambridge Colleges and is valued at over £1.5 billion, composed of around 60% property and 40% securities.The management of the endowment is undertaken by the Senior Bursar (College’s equivalent to a Chief Investment Officer), and his office, and supported by third party managers.Addressing climate change is an important priority for Trinity College. We have to achieving net zero by 2050 in our endowment and divestment from fossil fuels in public equities by the end of 2021.What you will be doingYou will be supporting the team who will be focusing on two priority areas: investment opportunities and sustainability. For investment opportunities, the team is focusing on reviewing the horizon of options on private markets, public equity and property.For sustainability, Trinity is undertaking a carbon baseline and roadmap to net zero for the endowment, which will be ongoing in the summer. You will have the opportunity to work across both of these areas and support the team in research, analysis, writing, problem solving.What we can offer you Responsibility for your work and impact: This role offers an unparalleled opportunity to understand and work closely with a large and diverse endowment. There will also be opportunities for mentorship by members of the team.Great team experience and support: The office supporting the endowment combines the best of a small investment team, such as growth, scope for taking responsibility, non-hierarchical culture and a charity with a significant endowment. We are a small and close-knit team who care about working in an open and social environment. What you will need to succeed in this roleIn order to excel in this role, you will need the following: Be a current student with at least a projected 2:1Motivation: You are interested in finance, asset management or economics and enthusiastic about climate change and sustainable/responsible investment.Reliability: The office is fast paced and working on a multitude of topics simultaneously.
