Our Apprenticeship Programme

Both Apprenticeships are permanent positions from the outset with the actual apprenticeship being a 36month programme. You’ll be welcomed into a team at Orbit where you’ll be supported by your line manager and colleagues as you learn on the job. Our Apprenticeship Programme will provide you with the opportunity to gain the skills, experience and qualifications you need to secure the job you want, whilst getting paid in full time employment.

You will also have the chance to work as a team with our other Apprentices and deliver your own project, having a real impact on the organisation. Our former Apprentices have delivered a wellbeing programme for our employees, whereas another Cohort implemented their own ideas on how we, as a business, can recruit, attract and retain the Generation Z workforce; both have proven to be a real success across the business

The Roles

We are looking to recruit 2 Construction Apprentices; one to be based in the East and one to be based in the Midlands. You will mainly be based on construction sites with the occasional time in offices. Each Apprentice will report to our Site Managers and, dependant on what homes will are building and where, you will be based across our construction sites within these respective regions, ie. the Midlands Apprentice will be based across our construction sites in the Midlands and the East Apprentice will be based across our construction sites in the East.

The role of these Apprentices will be to support the Site Management Team in supervising specialist contractors and employees on construction projects. You will also be involved in supporting the Site Managers in the control of health and safety standards on construction projects; record, control and reporting of progress on a construction project; you will support with the control of quality of works on a construction project; understand overall plan for project and measure and record progress against plans; assess and report on quality standards and assist in commissioning of finished construction projects; understand financial and legal constraints and measure and record progress against budget. In time, with the support of the Site Managers, you will also use effective management principles and be able to supervise construction workers.

What We Offer

Both Apprenticeships in the Midlands and the East, are permanent roles which will start in September 2021. During your time as an Apprentice, you will gain a Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor Apprenticeship which is a 36month programme, delivered by either Leicester College/West Suffolk College.

Can I Apply?

Our Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16.

Entry Requirements for this particular Apprenticeships are as follows:

  • For this Higher Apprenticeship you will need 5 GCSE at grades (A*-C/9-4) or equivalent - your Mathematics and English grades must ideally be a Grade C.
  • Due to the nature of the role, the ability to be able to travel between construction sites.
  • Desirable (but not essential) is an advanced apprenticeship in a Construction Subject or a BTEC Level 3 in Construction or Civil Engineering this can also include A levels.
