We are looking for multiple highly motivated and proactive HCSW's to undertake an innovative Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) programme, which is being delivered in partnership with the University of the West of Scotland.

The course is a 2 year university programme which commences the 13th September 2021 and is a blend of practice placements, along with online and taught education. Throughout both years of the programme you will progressively gain experience and be fully supported by a mentor.

After successful completion of the Dip HE in Operating Department Practice we will provide you the opportunity to consolidate your clinical practice in NHS Lothian as a fully Registered Operating Department Practitioner. As well as achieving the Diploma you will be fully registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). Year 3 is aimed at achieving NHS Lothian mandatory theatre specific competences during your consolidation period.

Entry criteria

Qualifications: Scottish National Qualifications passes in five subjects including two at H Level or passes in GCSE/GCE in four subjects including one at A Level

Applications will also be considered from those holding Professional or Educational qualifications at SCQF Level 6 or above or Vocational Qualifications (eg SVQ Or NQ) equivalent to at least SCQF Level 6 or above who can evidence work experience in a relevant discipline.

English language requirements: To meet HCPC (2018) requirements for accreditation, all candidates must be able to communicate in English to the standard equivalent at level 7 of the International English Language Testing System, with no element below 6.5.

PVG: Entry to the programme will be subject to satisfactory assessment.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post. ???????

*Please note this is a Trainee post, therefore Annex 21 applies*

For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:

up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified;more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
