This is an excellent opportunity for a talented microscopist to join an established materials characterisation facility.

The IAC has a strong track record in the analysis of materials for academic and industrial projects, using its suite of advanced electron and ion beam microscopes, X-ray instruments and high-speed atomic force microscopy. The instrument scientist will join a team of academics, technicians and staff scientists that the facility for commercial and collaborative research projects, and using other related instruments within the facility and university where needed. The successful candidate will run the ion and electron beam instruments and be responsible for using the focussed ion beam instruments to produce liftout specimens for analysis using transmission electron microscopy, atom probe tomography and micromechanical testing. They will also assist in the maintenance of the ion beam and electron beam instruments in the facility and training new users on the instruments. The specific work will allow them to contribute to research reports to industrial partners and publications in academic journals, and the co -supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate student projects.
