We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-starting individual to manage our Early Careers Talent Scheme in an evolving and dynamic Cyber and Defence organisation. We are continuously growing and require a motivated individual to design and lead the planning and on-boarding for the the entire life-cycle of new Early Careers cohorts; through to the implementation and improvement of the schemes, ensuring an engaging and immersive experience for each cohort.

This role sits within our National Security Solutions (NSS) business area with an initial focus on understanding the Talent Scheme requirements, through to delivery and continuous re-validation to ensure the success of all cohorts.

How you will make a difference

This role requires strong relationship management, including one-to-one line management of each cohort; understanding the business needs from various key internal stakeholders, remaining aligned with the growth and direction of NSS; establishing and maintaining strong links with professional external institutions (e.g. STEM activity providers, universities) to understand the market and to attract a valid pipeline of talent; in addition to reporting and progress updates to the Senior Leadership Team.

Design

  • Identify and work with key stakeholders and HR to design and deliver a Talent Scheme recruitment strategy and employer brand for NSS, developing the profile and reputation to attract diverse and talented candidates in support of the business direction.
  • Ownership and execution of the schemes, including design, delivery and review for each iteration of the scheme cycle (to include bursary, internship, apprentice and graduate), and management of associated budgets.

Recruitment

  • Work closely with the resourcing team and other stakeholders to ensure continuous tasking of the talent scheme cohorts, in support of business requirements and career progression.
  • Working with project teams to deliver and lead on the development of assessment days and recruitment activity as required. Ensuring that the recruitment campaigns attract a diverse profile of candidates.

Stakeholder management and engagement

  • Identify and work closely with appropriate internal stakeholders to provide entry scheme forecasting and make intake recommendations for the next 1-2 years .
  • Manage the internal networks, ensuring that previous and new cohorts have the ability to network and learn and provide a further support route.
  • Champion the schemes internally and externally, working with the Communications team to support any messaging required.
  • Supporting NSS across all sites, regularly contacting and travelling to other sites (when appropriate) to build effective working relationships.

Continuous improvement

  • Continually review the frameworks to ensure they provide an effective experience for the cohorts.
  • Collate talent scheme results to provide analytics to the organisation, regularly reviewing progress to ensure that the frameworks are effective and support business strategic requirements and remain aligned to budgets.
  • Developing and managing relationships with Universities, Colleges and Training providers as required, continuously reviewing which are most appropriate.

Line management

  • Act as Line Manager for cohort members for initial period.

Tasking and career development

  • Work closely with the relevant functional teams to facilitate opportunities for more technical / discipline based support through mentor.
  • Manage all aspects of the framework ensuring that relevant learning activities are provided for the cohorts.
  • Act as the STEM Outreach lead, reviewing and assessing all STEM activity requests, and leading on coordination for NSS.

Responsibilities will also include any other reasonable task associated with design, delivery and continuous improvement of high performing talent schemes.

Essential criteria:

  • Must be a self-starter and act with initiative.
  • Must be highly organised, self-managing, and able to manage multiple activities at any one time.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with all audiences/stakeholders at all levels in the organisation and to influence without authority.
  • Must be a confident communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Must have experience in/working knowledge of talent schemes - such as Apprenticeships, Graduate programs.
  • Must be a confident people manager.
  • Must have experience working in a similar role and working in a budgetary environment.

It would be great if you had:

  • Previous experience of managing a broad range of talent schemes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of related professional qualifications, not limited to EngTech, IEng, CEng.
  • Experience of working in a technical environment.
  • An interest in Cyber Security and/or Defence.

Other info:

  • Hours of work: 40 hours per week over 5 days, however flexibility is promoted and supported if and where required. Please raise at application stage if part time or flex hours would be required.
  • Travel requirements: Some UK travel to attend team/customer meetings and training activities.
  • Clearance requirements: Post-holders must be able to obtain or hold and maintain UK Government clearances.
