Job overview
The post holder will be accountable within the team for ensuring a high standard of clinical radiography including all aspects of image quality, radiation protection and patient care. He or she will be expected to ensure compliance with accepted standards of data recording on the radiology information and patient archive and communication systems (“RIS” and “PACS”) and be commensurate with current data protection legislation
Main duties of the job
CLINICAL SERVICE PROVISION;
To be trained as an “operator” as defined by current IR(ME)R and undertake a prescribed range of projectional radiographic examinations under supervision appropriate to grade. These will include;
“Plain” projectional radiographs within inpatient, outpatient, A&E and satellite departments.
Participation in dedicated fluoroscopy sessions.
WHILE TRAINING;
To learn knowledge of modified radiographic techniques and supplementary projections for those prescribed examinations and the ability to perform such techniques.
To learn knowledge of the application of suitable exposure factors for those prescribed examinations and be able to modify exposure factors when required.
To carry out image acquisition, post processing and data storage, under supervision appropriate to grade, on PACS.
To effective communicate information to patients as to when and where to obtain results; this will include directions to clinics and/or other hospital departments or areas.

The Radiology department is looking for a well-motivated, suitably skilled individual to train as a radiography assistant practitioner ultimately to carry out, under appropriate supervision, projectional radiographic examinations within a busy district general hospital and its peripheral sites.
In addition, the post holder will be required to attend and pass all aspects of the University Of Cumbria’s Radiography Assistant Practitioner Course.

To maintain appropriate standards of patient focus including;
The obtaining of appropriate informed verbal or (where indicated) written consent before commencement of any radiological examination.
Safety and security of the patient at all times.
Appropriate inclusion of patient carers and relatives when indicated.
Promote safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children including the formal reporting of concerns.
Care of belongings - compliance with department protocol on the safe storage and return of patient valuables.
To be professional, courteous and kind in all interactions with patients and their carers.
To maintain good working relationships with colleagues, supervisors and other healthcare professionals
