Job Description

Programme Duration – 4 Years 

Qualification – BSc (Hons) Degree in Digital and Technology Solutions 

Salary – Circa £20,000

Software Engineering with Data 

Increasingly automated. Evermore sophisticated. This is the future our vision holds for our vehicles. Delivering here will be in the hands of our design and development teams in Electrical, Electronic and Software Engineering, and Powertrain Engineering. This means continually enhancing your expertise to create the millions of lines of code new innovations demand, translating data into demand and 

meeting that demand by reinventing and rejuvenating our products and services. 

This award-winning Apprenticeship programme is aimed at people who have a dedication to learning and a passion for pioneering. Our subject matter experts at have worked with our partners in the Warwickshire Manufacturing Group (WMG) at the University of Warwick to develop the BSc (Hons) Degree in Digital and Technology Solutions.

The Apprenticeship 

For the first two years you will study the core range of subjects, with pathway specialism in years three and four. Modules are taught in week blocks at the University of Warwick and will be a mix of lectures, practical laboratories, seminars and tutorials. You will also have access to a Virtual Learning Environment for further support between blocks.

You’ll contribute to the business in your assigned role, as well as undertake additional study in your own time, to achieve your academic award. A network of apprentice tutors and line managers will regularly review your progress and offer advice along the way, to support you performing at your best.

There are 4 pathways within the Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship: 

  • Software Engineering, in our Engineering and IT teams
  • Software Engineering with Data, in our Engineering and Manufacturing teams
  • Data Analytics with a variety of functions across our enterprise
  • Network Engineering in our Engineering and IT teams
  • In year’s 1 and 2 you will cover modules in all 4 of the pathways and then in years 3 and 4 you will move into the Software Engineering with Data pathway. 

    Specialism Modules (Year 1 & 2) 

    Applied Maths-I, Information Business Management Operations, Network Protocols and Infrastructure, Personal Skills for Professional Excellence, Smart Solutions Development-I (Programming), Agile Project Management, Applied Maths-II, Cyber Risks in Organisations, Information Systems for Business Processes and Smart Solutions Development-II (Databases).

    Specialism Modules (Year 3 & 4) 

    Automotive Control Systems, Descriptive and Diagnostic Analytics-I, Descriptive and Diagnostic Analytics-II, Industrial Statistics, Industrial Vision and Processing, Internet of Things, Machine Intelligence, Real Time Operating Systems, Software Development Life Cycle and an Individual Project. 

    Following the successful completion of your Apprenticeship you could find yourself working in one of the following areas: Electrical & Vehicle Engineering, Product Engineering Operations or within our Manufacturing Engineering function. 

    What’s required 

    GCSE Maths and English Language at level 5 (C) or higher and in addition a further 3 GCSEs at level 5 (C) or higher. 

    A level Maths grade B or higher and an additional A level in Physics; Chemistry; Design & Technology; ICT; Computer Science; Economics or Engineering at grade C or higher.

    In addition to these academic requirements at the assessment stage we will also look for evidence of other qualifications, knowledge, experience or qualities – for example a third A-level or other further academic qualifications; a substantial time in employment or voluntary activity; a technical project or hobby or substantial responsibilities as a carer. We will also be looking for you to demonstrate your passion for the role and explain your motivation for wanting to join our Digital Technology & Solutions Degree Apprenticeship. 

    Future career prospects 

    Join us on this apprenticeship programme and you’ll be placed within one of the areas below: 

    Product Engineering 

    As the sophistication and automation of our vehicles continues to grow, our design and development teams in Electrical, Electronic and Software Engineering; and Powertrain Engineering increasingly require software engineering expertise to help create and maintain the millions of lines of code for our vehicles. Increased connectivity produces large amounts of data which can be used to continuously improve our products, and provide new services to our customers to give them experiences they love for life. 

    Manufacturing Engineering – Final Assembly 

    Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for developing the manufacturing processes and facilities required for new models or model year changes for all Jaguar Land Rover products. For Final Assembly, this involves every operation required to convert the painted body into a finished vehicle ready to pass to sales. Manufacturing Engineering are involved at all stages of the product development life cycle from influencing and driving Design for Assembly and Design for Testing of all new technologies through to delivery of an infrastructure to allow the vehicles to be built at volume

    IT 

    As a growing global business continuously investing in our facilities, our IT teams ensure that our people have the infrastructure and tools required to do their jobs. Our Network Engineers support existing infrastructure and the deployment of new technical solutions. Our Analysts use data from multiple sources to support day-to-day operations, drive improvements and help forecast our future requirements so that the optimal solutions can be deployed.

    In a world of ever greater connectivity, digital technology solutions play a role in virtually everything we do and experience. Our global teams across our business are increasingly using data from multiple sources to make critical decisions and drive outstanding performance. 

    Data analytics, the management and manipulation of relevant data is essential for us to continue to offer a world-class experience to our customers whilst remaining commercially viable. To take on this challenge you should enjoy problem solving, have good analytical proficiency and be comfortable manipulating and working with large amounts of data.

    We’ll continue to invest in our systems and deploy new architectures to get the most out of the data around us. Fast reporting, data visualisation and trend identification will enable the business to outperform the competition in all areas. Artificial Intelligence will play an increasingly important role in us maintaining relationships with our suppliers, customers and employees which are trusted and personalised.
