Downs View is an Outstanding (Ofsted 2020) SEN Specialism (communication & interaction) school & college for pupils aged 4 to 19 years with the above needs.

We are a highly innovative, committed, outward looking and enthusiastic organisation in all aspects of our work but especially: highest quality education and care, inclusive practice, staff development and parental engagement. We have previously, successfully supported 6 apprentices to attain qualified teacher status. All those people have become outstanding practitioners with our support, training and development opportunities.

We are now very interested to hear from graduates preferably with some SEN & Disability experience and a desire to work in this field who are interested in an apprenticeship programme to enable them to attain qualified teacher status at Downs View.

We are absolutely committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. This programme is subject to a successful enhanced DBS check. 

The apprentice will follow the Post Graduate Teacher Apprenticeship standard.

About the role

The start date for the apprenticeship programme will be June 2021 and will last for 1 year (3 terms).

The Post Graduate Teacher Apprentice will follow a structured training programme working within Downs View School and will learn to and demonstrate the following teaching standards:

  • Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
  • Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
  • Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
  • Plan and teach well-structured lessons
  • Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils
  • Make accurate and productive use of assessment
  • Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment
  • Professional and Personal Behaviours required of a Teacher
  • Entry Requirements

    Applicant selection is subject to being accepted by the University of Brighton.

    Applicants must have:

  • The equivalent to a grade 4 in GCSE English, Mathematics and a Science subject
  • A degree awarded by a UK higher education provider, bachelor or a recognised equivalent qualification
  • Been assessed as suitable to teach by accredited Initial Teacher Training provider

    Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
