Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

To be a Senior Teaching Fellow that is part of a team in the School of Engineering delivering the Civil Engineer Degree Apprenticeship (CEDA) programme. To work as an academic member of the CEDA team to ensure, for example, work-based elements are well integrated into the delivery of the BEng Civil and Infrastructure Engineering programme. To work with employers to ensure that their apprentices are able to join the programme and fulfil the vocational and educational elements of the apprenticeship. To work with employers to prepare individual learning plans for the apprentices, to monitor their development against these plans with the workplace mentors and CEDA academic team. To ensure that apprentices maintain appropriate evidence for continuing professional development, and that both informal and contractual ongoing reporting is completed. To support teaching and learning on the CEDA programme linked to knowledge, skills and behaviours as specified in the Assessment Plan to the Civil Engineer Non-Integrated Degree Apprenticeship (Level 6).


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.To work with the Civil Engineer Degree Apprenticeship (CEDA) academic team, employers and apprentices to support the integration of the work-based and professional development elements of apprenticeship training within the overall framework of the CEDA programme.

2.To contribute to the educational goals in the teaching strategy of the School of Engineering, including appropriate programme delivery and curriculum development within the scope of the duties for an Apprenticeship Tutor.

3.To visit employers to discuss plans and implementation of the on-the-job, knowledge, skills and behaviour elements of the programme.

4.To undertake specific roles with the CEDA academic team and contribute to CEDA programme activities such as induction, outreach work, apprentice recruitment, open and offer days, as required.

5.To work with apprentices, and where appropriate their work-based mentors or line managers, to ensure that Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) are developed and maintained over the apprenticeship.

6.To review progress by way of tripartite meetings against these ILPs and provide appropriate coaching support for apprentices where required and work with the CEDA academic team and employers to ensure that individual or cohort issues are identified and resolved in a timely way.

7.To ensure that apprentice learner evidence is maintained and submitted to EFSA to evidence funding to be drawn down.

8.To assist, when required, with identification of suitable work-based projects and to support apprentices in the work-based element of their project work.

9.To take the role of personal tutors for a designated group of CEDA apprentices.
10.To keep up to date with the legal and administrative requirements concerning the apprenticeship and the Apprenticeship levy and with regional and national skills agendas.

11.To provide reports and updates to CEDA academic team as required and regular, and ad hoc information to employers of apprentices where appropriate.

12.To be active within the School of Engineering to include attending CEDA programme and other meetings, and be the Secretary for the CEDA programme Advisory Steering Committee with employer and academic members.

13.To ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of work and other University regulations and good practice in all aspects of work and, where appropriate, undertake risk assessments.

14.To support and comply with the University and School of Engineering quality assurance standards and procedures, including the provision of such information as maybe required by the School or the University.

15.To engage in external academic activities in accordance with the School of Engineering strategy and which enhance our national/international reputation.

The duties and responsibilities outlined are for guidance on the main aspects of the University Apprenticeship Tutor position. The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their duties. Occasional weekend, evening and overseas working may be required. Travelling to meet employers and/or apprentices in their work place is essential. The appointee will be a member of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Stream within the School of Engineering.

The Post

This Senior Teaching Fellow will be based within the Civil and Environmental Engineering stream of the School of Engineering at Warwick. The School of Engineering launched in October 2018 a new undergraduate BEng programme (Civil and Infrastructure Engineering) that is for a Civil Engineer Degree Apprenticeship (CEDA). This appointment is to continue building the CEDA team that is responsible for the delivery and success of this undergraduate degree programme, having 200 or more apprentices when all five years of the degree programme are populated.

In conjunction with Warwick Manufacturing Group, the School of Engineering also delivers a general engineering education in years one and two with increasing discipline specialism in second year. Staff from both departments contributing to the delivery of teaching. In year 2 and beyond, students are able to specialise in a specific engineering discipline, including a BEng and MEng in Civil Engineering. Postgraduate taught programmes in Tunnelling and Underground Space and Humanitarian Engineering are also offered as MSc degrees by the Civil and Environmental Engineering stream. The School of Engineering also includes discipline streams with associated degree programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Systems and Information.
