Job Description

About us

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is part of the BMW Group and is located in Goodwood, West Sussex. The Group has been recognised as being in the ‘Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers 2019-2020’ and the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars plant specifically runs one of the South East's largest apprenticeship schemes. Join us, and ultimately, you will have access to a wide variety of career paths with one of the world's top luxury brands.

The Rolls-Royce Motor Cars brand is synonymous with quality, style and performance and this extends to the Goodwood team itself. As a major international company we are proud of our investment in people and we are currently seeking apprentices to join the department in August 2021.

Your Career Development

Training consist of the study of modern state of the art automotive production technology, as well as the latest innovations in manufacturing techniques. This includes: robot maintenance and programming, cutting and welding. Our core engineering training covers electronics, pneumatics, electrical, plc’s, hydraulics, welding, milling, turning, basic hand skills as well as general mechanical engineering.

This training takes place in our modern onsite apprentice academy.
The technical and maintenance teams you will be working with at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd are responsible for the rapid detection, rectification and prevention of faults within our manufacturing facilities. They also control the operation, programming and maintenance of our automated production equipment. Your final goal will be to become a productive member of these elite teams.

You will need to be enthusiastic and well-disciplined as our apprenticeship is heavily focused on attitude and behaviour. In addition, you need to exhibit initiative, be reliable and conscientious. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to think logically and to work both independently and as part of a team.

Rolls-Royce offers an enhanced apprenticeship in comparison to others in industry. The four year programme is designed to enable you to experience different aspects of Engineering and production technology including: hand-skills, machining, fluid power, electronics, welding, robotics, control systems and many more. You will then select to specialise for the remainder of the course in your ‘home’ department.

Our advisors are always available to provide individual support and guidance, enabling you to customise training to suit your skills.

In your first year you will undertake practical training to qualify you with Employers Units of Competence (L2 engineering) supported by a BTEC national certificate. Following this you will take on a level 3 NVQ competency based qualification all of which are based on engineering and maintenance systems in the business. You could have the potential to move onto the Higher National Certificate (HNC) at level 4 in engineering subject to YOUR performance and attitude.

Your career with Rolls-Royce will be designed to meet individual aspirations and the business needs of an internationally recognised company. You start on a business awareness programme followed by career objective training in the relevant departments.

• Technical and Maintenance support to Body in White (BIW) and Paintshop operations.

• A maintenance role within highly automated production facilities.

Rate of Pay

A competitive salary starting at c.£13,650 pa which will increase annually up to c.£28,000 depending on individual progress and performance.

Benefits

Pension scheme, BMW car scheme eligible to those 18 years and over, generous holiday allowance, a subsidised on-site restaurant and discounts at various local businesses and restaurants.

Working Hours

40 hour working week. Apprentice start and finish times at Goodwood are 06:00 – 14:30 but may vary slightly according to work-based placements and college hours.

• A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at higher grade C or grade 4 (or above) including Maths and English.

A technology related subject or a BTEC level 3 (60 credits plus) or equivalent in a relevant Engineering or Technology discipline would be advantageous but is not essential.

When it comes to selecting the right apprentices, it’s as much about attitude and behaviours as it is about vocational and academic success. That’s why in addition to the qualifications we require from you, we’ll also look for you to have a range of skills, attributes and competencies. These include: team working, as well being able to work without close supervision; quality focus; good communication skills; the ability to show enthusiasm and initiative; and to take responsibility and be accountable for your work.
