The BMW Group is a global organisation, designing and manufacturing motor vehicles of the highest quality, including the highly acclaimed MINI produced at Plant Oxford. BMW Group Plant Swindon supplies the majority of the pressed panels that are then joined together to produce the familiar MINI 'shell'. The completed body is then passed to the Paint Shop in the next process step. Plant Swindon also supply pressed panels to the wider BMW network across the world.

As a major international company we are proud of our investment in people and we are currently seeking apprentices to join us in early September 2021.

Apprentice Toolmaker - Level 3

BMW Toolmaking teams are vitally important in supporting all Press Shop and related plant activities. They are responsible for the regular maintenance, repairs and modifications of all existing press tools. The required skills to build new press tools will also be taught as part of the apprenticeship. You will also learn state-of-the-art engineering and production techniques, so you need to understand the assembly and function of technical equipment. You will be trained in traditional skills to include hand fitting, milling, turning, grinding, drilling and welding. You will also receive training in CNC (computerised numerical control) machines and ensuring facility run-time is maximised using TPM and other known tools. You should also have good communication skills, the ability to think logically and to work independently or as part of a team.

Apprenticeship Programme and Career Development:
The BMW Group offers an enhanced level 3 apprenticeship commencing early September 2021. The four-year programme is flexible, enabling you to experience different aspects of engineering and production technology during the first year, before selecting to specialise for the remainder of the course. Our advisors are always available to provide individual support and guidance, enabling you to customise training to suit your skills.

In your first year you will undertake practical training to qualify you with Employers Units of Competence supported by a national certificate. You could have the potential to move onto a Higher National Certificate (HNC) subject to YOUR performance and attitude.

The first year of the program is purely in a learning environment where you will be attending college or university on a part time or block release basis.

Your career with the BMW Group will be designed to meet individual aspirations and the business needs of an internationally recognised company. You start on a business awareness programme followed by career objective training in 3 monthly placements in the relevant departments.

Rate of Pay:
A competitive salary enhanced annually depending on individual progress and performance starting at circa  £14,333 per annum  rising to over  £27,000  at the end of the programme.

Company car scheme eligibility to those 18 years and over, plus other benefits.

Working Hours:
36 hour working week, start and finish times will vary according to work-based placements and college hours.
