Job Description
TRAINEE ENGINEER PROGRAMME
REGISTRATION OF INTEREST FOR SEPTEMBER 2021 INTAKE
CIRCA £18,000 PLUS EXCELLENT BENEFITS
Our Trainee Engineer Programme lasts for three years and combines academic study with work based experience. Working within our Networks business, Thermal or Renewables business, you'll have a unique opportunity to study towards a HNC level qualification with an academic provider, fully funded by us.
When not studying, you'll spend the balance of your time on placements which may include working in the field, at Power Stations and Control Rooms, working alongside experienced SSE crafts people and engineers. By the time you reach the third year of the programme you'll be given increased responsibility in managing small jobs, including technical aspects, safety management and the supervision of crafts people or contractors.
You should have, or be on target to achieve, Maths and Science (preferably physics) at A2 level (A-C) or SQA Higher (A-B), as well as English at GCSE (A -C) or National 5 (Scotland). Alternatively, you may already be experienced within a technical role, and hold a minimum of HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
This Programme requires you to be highly organised and self-driven with the ability to manage your time well. You should be flexible in your approach to work to maximise your chances of success, and you should be happy working alone or as part of a team. You'll be comfortable to spend some time living away from home whilst attending study through our academic provider or whilst on placements across SSE.
Please note: Our Trainee Engineer recruitment campaign normally runs from January to March each year. This application is to register your interest in the programme and once our recruitment campaign is live we will email you to invite you to submit a full application.
