The Goole Rail facility is the latest major investment in manufacturing made by Siemens and will assemble and commission the DTUP (Deep Tube Upgrade Programme) trains for the London Underground, starting with the Piccadilly line. The Goole facility is currently in its building phase and so this role will be working towards a factory of the future! Roles recruited in advance of 2023 (such as this internship) are to enable the operational planning of the facility from a UK perspective. This involves ‘twinning’ the processes that exist in the current Metro manufacturing or in other parts of Rolling Stock (depots, for example) in the UK.The ChallengeEmbark on your 12-month placement with us whilst taking part in our fantastic intern development programme. We will create an individual training plan to help you develop the specific skills and knowledge required for your role. By the end of it, you will be set up with the best knowledge and hands-on experience to equip you for your professional career in manufacturing, particularly focusing on EHS.Working directly for the EHS Manager and closely with the General Manager, this role will cover a diverse range of tasks. At this stage of the project the focus will be on topics for the operation in Goole (not the building project) such as:
Documentation of the operational facility’s environmental responsibilities, this will make up the environmental manual for the facility (inputs/outputs etc.)Documenting the H&S arrangements for the facility to enable its operation, i.e. From arriving in the car park to getting to a place of work. What staff need to know (induction to the working arrangements in video form, for example)Assisting with the work task risk assessmentsDocumenting the expected COSHH requirementsAssisting with documenting equipment assessments for PUWER and LOLER, having a schedule for inspections.It will also touch on the processes that exist in the Vienna plant and how these are transferred to Goole, including:Policies and procedures for Goole site that are Metro Division Manufacturing relevantReporting activities – KPIs, Monthly stats, scorecards, Quality dataOperational excellence – visualisationNaturally, with no operation/building in place at this time there will be many ad-hoc tasks required to support the EHS head, the GM and the team that is in place already.The CandidateWe are looking for innovative and inquisitive candidates that demonstrate the following:Studying towards a 2:2 or above in Environmental studies, EHS, Environment and Geography, Manufacturing.People who are process-driven and looking to develop solid methods and ways of working for our new siteYou are mature and can communicate at all levels – from peers to senior stakeholders, we need people who take initiative and will seize opportunities to achieve excellence.
