Job Description

Teacher of Learning Difficulties & Disabilities

Job type: Permanent

Salary: £22,879 to £32,582 depending on qualifications and experience

Hours: 37 (term time only)

Location: Southampton

What does it take to educate and care for people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties? At Nacro, we believe it takes excellent resources, a highly committed team and a clear focus on the individual needs of every young person and adult we deal with - and you could now build on our success at Totton College as an innovative provider of specialist education services.

What we are looking for?

To continue opening doors for some of the most vulnerable members of our society, we are now looking for a qualified teacher with QTS who can teach life, independence, and work skills, as well as Entry level Functional Maths and English skills.

You will join our dynamic and supportive team, in providing high quality learning opportunities, to students aged 16-25, who have a wide range of learning difficulties and disabilities.

Experience preferred but this post may suit a primary trained teacher looking for a new challenge.

To be successful in the role, you will have a positive attitude towards students and high expectations of them and for them as well as displaying a positive attitude to behaviour management.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing pastoral care to students within the provision.
  • Giving relevant support and advice on current programmes of study, on future education applications and employment as appropriate.
  • Developing the curriculum for the provision, in line with the Foundation Learning Framework.
  • Liaising closely with parents and carers and external agencies, as appropriate
  • Planning and delivering Schemes of Work (including lesson plans) in line with course and department documentation.

A QTS or DET and experience with SEN is essential for this role.

A DBS will be required for this role.
